• The Jacksonville Bar Association’s Young Lawyer Section will have people running for cover May 2. The first “Run for Cover! 5K” will start and finish behind the Duval County Courthouse after runners complete a Downtown loop around Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. • Good news for Lemon Bar fans. The popular oceanfront bar in Neptune Beach reopens for the year Friday.

• R. Lanier Anderson III, circuit court judge in the 11th Circuit of the United States District Court of Appeals, is pushing again for local federal judge Gerald Tjoflat to be the recipient of this year’s Devitt Award. Anderson nominated Tjoflat last year and is asking Mayor John Peyton for his support.

• The second Legal Art Walk Show will open April 1 at the Zodiac Grill at the corner of Hogan and Adams streets. Original artwork created by judges, attorneys and other members of the legal community will be on display and for sale. All proceeds will be donated to Jacksonville Area Legal Aid to fund JALACare, a program that teaches students the dangers of consumer debt. • Gov. Charlie Crist has appointed eight people to the Statewide Drug Policy Advisory Council. Jacksonville’s Derya E. Williams, chief executive officer of River Regional Human Services, was appointed for a term that began Feb. 16 and ends Sept. 6, 2011. The council is responsible for analyzing substance abuse in the state and making recommendations to the governor and Legislature on developing a strategy to treat it.

• Speaking of appointments, dog track and poker room owner Howard Korman was reappointed to the Early Learning Coalition of Duval, Inc., by Crist last week. The CEO of Jacksonville Greyhound Racing will serve a term from Feb. 17 until April 30, 2012. The coalition was created to help early learning and childcare programs prepare children to enter the school system.

• The sign on the outside of the Gas Knob Pub says it will reopen March 2 when Elton John makes a stop at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, and the restaurant will continue to be open throughout the baseball season on game days, for special events and corporate parties.

• In the Feb. 6 issue of the Daily Record, the City’s solar-powered trash can located in the direct sun on the Northbank Riverwalk near the Hyatt was featured in a standalone. It has since been moved to a shady location under the tree canopy at Hemming Plaza.

• The folks in the Riverside/Avondale/Ortega will talk crime Thursday when they hold a meeting of the Sheriff’s Advisory Council (SHADCO). It’s at 7 p.m. at Ortega United Methodist Church on Roosevelt Boulevard.
