• The Bragans will celebrate 25 years of ownership of the Jacksonville Suns this season. Peter Bragan Sr. bought the team in 1984. There are 44 days until opening day.
• Jacksonville Ice, formerly Jax Indoor Sports, will host the final for the Young Lawyers Section basketball league on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The game is a rematch from last year’s final as the team representing Heekin, Malin & Wenzel will take on Arnold Law.
• During the March ArtWalk, The St. Johns Riverkeeper will conduct guided tours of the St. Johns River on free boat rides provided by S.S. Marine Taxi from 5-8 p.m.
• Speaking of ArtWalk, the annual “CANstruction” project will be going on at the Main Library. Area construction and architecture firms create familiar landmarks and objects entirely from canned goods, which will be on display plus there will be a solo performance by Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra violinist Max Huls at 7 p.m. Also, Grammy Award-winner Christian McBride will perform at the Florida Theatre at 8 p.m. and ArtWalkers can purchase half-price tickets the day of the show. Finally from ArtWalk, the official after-party is at The Ivy Ultra Bar on East Bay Street with the first drink free for those over 21 with ID, properly attired and carrying an ArtWalk flyer.
• Theatre Jacksonville’s production of “Wait Until Dark” directed by Rick DeSpain opens March 13 at the Harold K. Smith Playhouse in San Marco. Before the film version starring Audrey Hepburn and Alan Arkin, the show was a hit on Broadway and London’s West End. Evening and matinee performances are scheduled through March 28. • Also at Theatre Jacksonville, auditions for “Playing Juliet/Casting Othello” are Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Six roles will be cast for males and females 20s-40s, African-American and Caucasian. Cold readings from the script will be required and scripts are available for loan at the playhouse with a $10 deposit. Production dates are April 24-May 9. • The Jacksonville Home and Patio Show opens Thursday at the Osborn Center. Workers are constructing a 2,500 square-foot backyard garden complete with an in-ground swimming pool inside the building. The show runs through Sunday.
• The First Coast Freethought Society, “serving the non-religious of Northeast Florida,” will hold its monthly meeting March 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church on the Arlington Expressway. The guest speaker will be Dr. Richard Hull, professor emeritus of philosophy at the State University of New York at Buffalo. His topic will be, “Without God, Whence Cometh Morality?” For further information call 288-6291.
• The City’s Art in Public Places installation that will commemorate the life and legacy of the late U.S. Rep Tillie Fowler will be dedicated April 20. The ceremony will be open to the public on the Northbank Riverwalk between The Haskell Company and the YMCA.
• Keep the faith, burger lovers: Construction has resumed in earnest at the Fuddruckers location at the Landing. The interior framing is almost complete and a peek at the blueprints shows an outdoor covered patio extending into the walkway adjacent to Benny’s Steaks & Seafood and an in-house bakery with a service window across from The Toy Factory. Franchise owner David Farmer expects to flip the first Fuddrucker some time in April.
