Gov. Charlie Crist declared the past two Fridays a holiday for State offices, but Public Defender Bill White was in for a bit on Friday. Over the years his inbox has been brimming with projects, but none are currently present as today is White’s last day running the office after not being re-elected last year. He’ll begin his role as director of student enrichment with Communities in Schools Jan. 15, a role he said he’ll bring the same passion to as he did as Public Defender. White has been packing his office up for several weeks now and said he isn’t saddened about packing up items he’s collected in more than 34 years in the office — it’s the people he’ll miss most. “The relationships with everyone at the office I’ll miss the most,” he said. “It feels like the forced breakup of a family.” He has no regrets and said though his tenure is coming to a close, he’s had an incredible career.
