• The first week of the new year was really good for the First Coast YMCA. According to media relations manager Ashley Wilson, the Y sold 356 units (individual and family memberships) the first week of January last year. This year the number was 570. “That was a surprise given the economic situation,” she said.

• City Council member Ray Holt is sponsoring a resolution that would make Tuesday “Homeschooling Day” in Jacksonville.

• Speaking of Council, at Tuesday’s meeting Council member Don Redman will honor Virginia Norton for her election as a Circuit Court Judge. Norton was an attorney with the Office of General Counsel.

• Finally from Council, President Ronnie Fussell will recognize Council member Glorious Johnson for completing training at the Institute for Elected Municipal Officials in Orlando. Johnson went through the classes Oct. 3-5.

• Nuvell Financial Services, LLC is closing its office on Corklan Drive. According to Cherie Taylor of the company’s human resources department, the closure is effective March 7 and will affect 212 employees.
