The Jacksonville Chapter of the Federal Bar Association welcomed Florida Solicitor Scott Makar to its monthly luncheon on Friday.
No stranger to Jacksonville, Makar worked for the City’s Office of General Counsel before being appointed to the post in Tallahassee, he took time to familiarize the crowd of about 40 with his responsibilities as Solicitor General.
“He represents us, the state of Florida, in civil matters, assists the Attorney General on policy issues and teaches at Florida State University,” said U.S. District Judge Marcia Howard.
Some of his duties have grown while he has been in office.
“I didn’t really expect to be involved in policy decisions,” said Makar. “My goal teaching a class at Florida State University is to teach a different class each semester.”
Makar even got a chance to congratulate Lori Mans for winning the Barbara Makar Award for the Best Note at University of Florida Levin College of Law. Makar established the award in honor of his mother.
“It was really unexpected,” said Mans.
Howard also encouraged anyone interested in applying for the Magistrate position in Tampa to do so soon.
“The application is quite extensive, so those interested might want to take a look at it now,” said Howard.
Feb. 13 is the cutoff for applications.
