• Attorney Thomas Edwards of Edwards & Ragatz has been elected to the Executive Council for the Trial Lawyer’s Section of the Florida Bar. The purpose of the Trial Lawyers Section is: “to assist the courts in improving the administration of justice; to promote the art of advocacy; and to preserve and protect the jury system.”

• The First District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission released a list of applicants for two positions that will be vacated. Applicants include: from Tallahassee, Kristin Adamson Landau, Paul H. Amundsen, Meredith Charbula, Gerald B. Curington, Susan Dawson, David De La Paz, Karen Gievers, Lynn Colby Hearn, Mary Leontakianakos, Martha Martin, Errol H. Powell, Lori Sellers Rowe, Charles A. Stampelos, Clifford Alan Taylor, John Glen Van Laningham, Jessica Enciso Varn, T. Kent Wetherell II, and Craig B. Willis; from Gainesville, Geoffrey C. Fleck; and from Mayo, Darren Kenneth Jackson. The JNC will continue to receive applications until noon Thursday, and some applications may be submitted from Jacksonville before the deadline.

• City Council President Richard Clark has chosen to continue the Seaport-Airport Special Committee created by immediate past President Ronnie Fussell. It is tasked with helping the Jacksonville Port Authority and Jacksonville Aviation Authority find funding to accommodate the growing business in those areas, as well as supporting development of Cecil Commerce Center. The committee normally meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 4 p.m. at City Hall.

• Council Vice President Jack Webb joined the ranks of Council members to allow the public to see their e-mails. Currently, seven of 19 Council members allow access to their Council e-mail addresses, including Clark.

• U.S. Green Building Council North Florida Chapter has four new board members: Adair Owen (elected for a second term), Wayne Dunn, Rob Riva and Kim Newhouse. They join current board members Mark Gelfo, Corie Baker, Rob Overly, Ellen Reed and Susan Cleveland to form the 2009-10 board.

• Jill Sprowell, executive director at the Beaches Department of the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce, has been promoted to vice president of Member Relations. She began her career with the Chamber 18 years ago in the Membership Department as a coordinator immediately upon her graduation from Tulane University.
