Mayor John Peyton welcomed public service organization executives and advocates to a meeting Thursday in the Conference Center at the Main Library. He called the group together to explain the need for increasing property taxes in order to maintain services in Jacksonville. Peyton described the current fiscal situation as being “in terms of the budget the most different year since consolidation. The math as we’ve known it no longer exists.” He will be making the presentation to dozens of service clubs, civic groups and neighborhood town meetings between now and July 28 when City Council will vote on the proposed property tax increase. Monday, Peyton will formally present his 2009-10 budget to Council at 10 a.m. in a public meeting in Council Chambers.
