The law office of Wood, Atter & Wolf hosted the latest meeting of the Jacksonville Asian-American Bar Association (JAABA) July 9, its last until the fall.
The recent meeting had a full agenda, as members elected the leadership that would guide it through the next term. The nominations of Beejal Patel of Robert Morgan & Associates for president, Maria Aguila of the Law Office of Maria Aguila for vice president, Tala Woods of Akerman Senterfitt for secretary and Larry Wang of the Law Office of Larry Wang for treasurer were approved by the members.
The association also discussed participation in the Jacksonville Bar Diversity Symposium in 2010.
“The different volunteer bars contributed to making the first symposium a success,” said Aguila. “We need to continue our involvement because the Symposium cannot provide the diversity it needs to be a success without the participation of the different ethnic and volunteer bars.”
In an effort to make it easier for its members and the public to find out information about JAABA, the association voted to contract with Bailey Publishing and Communications to develop a Web site for JAABA.
Members were also informed of an upcoming immigration intake training at Jacksonville Area Legal Aid on August 25.
The next meeting of JAABA will be Sept. 10 at noon at a site to be determined. Call Maria Aguila for more information at [email protected] or 638-1338.
