About 60 students, parents and grandparents were welcomed aboard the S.S. Marine Taxi Tuesday morning for a guided tour and reading adventure on the St. Johns River. In addition to songs and story time with Jaime Sanborn from the Children’s Department at the Main Library, passengers also learned about Jacksonville’s signature inland body of water and its history from St. Johns Riverkeeper Outreach Coordinator Kelly Savage. The activity was part of the Jacksonville Public Library’s “Year of the River” initiative, a series of art and photography exhibits and library programs that continue through March, 2010.
