How did you get involved?

I have volunteered all of my life but a real turning point was in an earlier career when I was selected for the New York program that is similar to Leadership Jacksonville. The network and contacts I developed were helpful in every aspect of life but most importantly, it was eye-opening to see how many organizations truly needed leadership.

How can someone else get involved?

Find something you’re passionate about, ask your friends and family for suggestions of where help is needed, then get involved. The nation’s call to volunteer is the beginning of new and better communities and each of us can contribute in a meaningful way.

What have you learned/achieved through the experience?

(1) When you need something done, ask the busiest person you know.  (2) When you are interested in a civic or community cause, the work may be tedious but the gratification of helping someone less fortunate and seeing a smile on his or her face along with a heartfelt thank you ALWAYS outweighs the work required to get the job done. (3) If you desire anything, tell five people and you’re likely to receive it!

What was the last book you read or are reading?

I’ve read three David Baldacci books in the last three weeks (The Winner, The Whole Truth and Total Control). Just starting The Assassin by John Grisham.
