An event created to introduce law clerks and interns to the Jacksonville legal community returned Wednesday as an award-winning success.
“Noon in June” was developed by the Jacksonville Bar Association Young Lawyers Section last year with the idea to provide an educational tour of the Downtown Jacksonville legal community and present an opportunity to network for law clerks and interns working at law firms and governments during the summer.
“We are in a tough economic time, but you are here, you made it,” said JBA President-Elect Dan Bean. “We are probably going to see more tough times, so I can’t stress enough how important networking is.”
Bean was preceded by State Rep. Audrey Gibson in encouraging a group that was at the beginning of their law careers.
“I encourage you as you begin your careers to be active in your community,” said Gibson, who represents Downtown Jacksonville.
The event included stops at the federal courthouse, City Hall and the Duval County Courthouse. During the tour, the group heard from U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Corrigan, Jacksonville General Counsel Rick Mullaney and City Council member Kevin Hyde.
“Noon in June” was recognized by the Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division as the “Membership Service Project of the Year” in 2008. Michelle Bedoya Barnett was recognized as the project’s “George Washington” for her efforts in developing the event along with Kim Law and Lanesha Sims.
