Chairman, SMC Builder Relations Committee

Well, we have an idea. The Builder Relations Committee is hard at work already and, with the help of our great friends Jim Bailey and Deborah Metzig at Realty/Builder Connection, we will bring you the answers to the questions that will help you most “Get out of your comfort zone” from the industry’s most successful trainers.

Why get out of your comfort zone? I don’t know about your business but I heard over and over that 2008 was a difficult year in this industry.

As 2009 was approaching, I asked myself what I was going to do differently to make 2009 a better and more productive year.

My action plan for 2009 is going to create a little bit of pain for me. What do I mean by that? I’m getting out of my comfort zone and I am doing the things that I know I should do but was too busy to do before. Productive things like having a business coach that holds me accountable, calling clients instead of emailing them, getting in front of them instead of sending something through the mail and using my time the very best that I can in networking!

Why is SMC in my 2009 action plan? The Pledge of Allegiance to our flag and our great country, a prayer asking God to bless us and our business, hugs — let’s not forget the hugs! — knowledge shared by trainers, leaders and some of the industry’s best motivational speakers, networking with fellow site agents and Realtors ... not to mention it’s a great way to start the day!

You may have reasons to not get up at the crack on dawn on the second Friday of each month and drive across town. How about some great reasons to do it?

1. Use those 30-45 minutes to listen to a motivational CD or a book on tape.

2. If you are a site agent, vow to get the business cards of two Realtors that you do not know and have a goal to have a one-on-one with them in the next 30 days so you can begin that trusted relationship that can and will produce sales.

3. If you are a Realtor, vow to get the card of two site agents that you do not know and have a goal to visit their model in the next 30 days, learn their spec inventory and have a goal to sell one of their homes

4. If you are a mortgage broker, vow to meet a new site agent and a new Realtor and see who they may know that you can help.

5. When you network and get to know agents, it makes for a better transaction when you have a co-op sale.

We’ve all heard it before, if you always do the same thing, you’ll always get the same result and we’ve all heard that the definition of doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. It’s a new year. At the Sales and Marketing Council, we are committed to inspiring you and we welcome your input and ideas.

Don’t be left behind wondering what is happening — join us the second Friday of each month at SMC and I promise that you’ll be glad you did.
