• The Jacksonville Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section Sports League softball season starts this week. Contact Gordon Fenderson, the sports league commissioner, at [email protected] for information concerning the team fees and schedule.

• Five Points restaurant O’Brothers will host the next YLS happy hour on April 1 from 6-8 p.m.

• Plan to ride the Skyway? Don’t touch the rails on the escalators unless you have something to clean your hands with afterwards.

• The last weekend in April has been set aside for a gathering of University of Florida Levin College of Law grads. The school is hosting the “All Classes Law Centennial Reunion,” April 24-26. Events include a century welcome reception, tours, “Heritage of Leadership” and distinguished alumnus ceremonies, CLEs, a family barbecue with Albert and Alberta, decade dinners (classmates grouped by decades in separate locations), children’s activities and a farewell brunch.

• The Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission is taking applications for its annual Historic Preservation Awards Program Schedule. Nominations must be submitted with required attachments by April 6. For more information, contact Lisa Sheppard at 630-7281 or [email protected].

• Goodwill Industries of North Florida is having a “Lunch N’ Learn” program at noon April 2 at its headquarters at 4527 Lenox Ave. A Powerpoint presentation will provide information on the services Goodwill Industries provides the community. Call 384-1361 for more information.

• Attorney Didi Wells of Holland & Knight has become a board intern with Community Connections, an organization dedicated to serving families and children in need in the Jacksonville community.

• Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) of Jacksonville, the nonprofit that assists community development corporations provide affordable urban housing, marks its 10th anniversary this year and will celebrate by sponsoring the June 3 ArtWalk, according to Amy Rankin, who handles the organization’s public relations. No venue has been selected yet, she said, but there will be a photo contest featuring children’s pictures of urban neighborhoods.

• No way to tell at this point how long the Skyway service to Riverplace and Kings Avenue stations on the Southbank will be unavailable following last week’s fire at the Riverplace stop. Insurance adjusters are still on the scene, then engineers will evaluate possible structural damage. After that comes the cleanup and repair, said JTA spokesperson Mike Miller. Until service is restored JTA will provide a free shuttle every 20 minutes from Central Station near the AT&T Building and San Marco Station to the out-of-service destinations.

• The City of Jacksonville’s Cecil Aquatic Center will be closed for maintenance until March 29 including repairs to the pool pump and chemical controllers. The locker rooms and restrooms will also be repainted and the floors will be recoated with a non-slip surface.
