How did you get involved?
United Way President Connie Hodge recruited me for one of the resource management teams, which visit United Way agencies each year to make sure donor dollars are put to the best use. I was later asked to chair our Early Childhood Success team and, as chair, became a part of the Cabinet, which recommends annual distributions to United Way funded programs.
How can someone else get involved?
Call United Way and they will sign you up.
What have you learned/achieved through the experience?
In visiting United Way programs, I learned Jacksonville has several angels who work hard, with little recognition or pay, to make life a little better for those less fortunate. I also learned I can do more to serve.
What was the last book you read or are reading?
“The Shack” by William P. Young. I also co-authored a book, “Don’t Chew Jesus! A Collection of Memorable Nun Stories” BenBella Books (November 2006)
