Baptist Health Foundation adds members, elects officers

The Board of Trustees of Baptist Health Foundation has elected its officers and has added new members: Shannon Miller and Dr. Unni C. Thomas.

Miller is a seven-time Olympic medalist and nine-time World medalist. She is the most decorated American gymnast in history and has been inducted into seven Halls of Fame. She is the only woman in any sport to be inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame twice. Today, Miller is a motivational speaker, television host, author, sports broadcaster and clinician. She founded the Shannon Miller Foundation to fight childhood obesity and co-chairs the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness in Florida.

Thomas is a medical oncologist and hematologist with Integrated Community Oncology Network (ICON). He is chief of Oncology at Baptist Medical Center Downtown and lead physician at ICON’s new Baptist Medical Center Downtown and Baptist Medical Center South office locations. He is a member of numerous organizations, including the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research and the American College of Physicians.

The Foundation board approved the election of the following officers: Chairman Robin Bradbury, Vice Chairman Mac Holley, Secretary Dr. Kurt Mori and Treasurer Barbara Jaffe. These officers are joined on the Executive Committee by committee chairs William Hatcher, Kathy Barco Jossim, Mori, Dr. Shyam B. Paryani, Joseph Thompson and ex-officio members Hugh Greene and Marlene Spalten.

Incumbent trustees elected to an additional three-year term are Barco Jossim, Dennis L. Blackburn, Larry Fairman, Holley, Paryani, Monteen Tomberlin, Cleve Warren and Michael Wolfson.

Baptist Health Foundation was founded in 1985 to support current and future community health care needs through philanthropy.
