• If you are looking for a unique venue to watch college basketball Saturday, try the Five Points Theater in Riverside. In addition to movies, the theater will show the Villanova/North Carolina NCAA semifinal as well as Monday’s title game.
• Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland reports that 4,108 students registered in last week’s Student Voter Registration Drive in 38 public and private high schools, colleges and universities throughout Duval County. The 18-25 year-old age group remains the largest percentage of registered voters in the county. Since 2005, the elections office has registered more than 20,000 students.
• Free tickets are now available for Bravo cable network’s “Top Chef: The Tour” April 9 at Hemming Plaza. Three shows will be taped for later broadcast and audiences are needed for the 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m. tapings. To register for tickets, go to http://thetour.bravotv.com.
• New leadership appointments for four at Nemours: Dr. Michael Erhard, chief of urology will assume the role of medical director in addition to his role as chairman for the department of surgery. In addition to being chair of the department of pediatrics, Dr. Paul Pitel has been appointed associate chief executive of the practice for Nemours Florida. Orthopedic surgeons Drs. Eric Loveless and Kevin Neal have been appointed interim division chief of orthopedics and associate interim division chief of orthopedics, respectively.
• In the April Sierra Club newsletter there’s an item about funding at Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve. The Sierra Club is worried the funding created by entrance fees will be cut off, costing eight people their jobs.
• The big naturalization that accompanies Law Week is set for April 23 in the Federal Courthouse. Senior U.S. District Judge Harvey Schlesinger will preside over the ceremony which gets underway at 10:30 a.m.
• Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Council Chair Mike Hightower is the guest speaker at Friday’s Downtown Council meeting. Breakfast is served at 7 a.m.
• Jacksonville author Michael Craven has released his first novel through Harper Collins. “Body Copy” is about a former pro surfer who retires to become a private investigator. Craven now lives in Boulder, Colo.
• According to the 2008 fiscal year report of the Jacksonville Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, the assessed value of property in the Downtown Community Redevelopment Area increased from $485.9 million to $608.2 million. Since the valuation process started in 1983, there has been an increase of $565.9 million.
• Photos of events in Jacksonville are now available for viewing online. The City has created its own page on the Web site Flickr where it will display pictures taken at city events and locations throughout Duval County. The latest collection is from the Museum Hop with Mayor John Peyton.
• The Bungalow on Park introduced some of its spring menu to guests attending its art show Sunday. Highlights include espresso dusted balsamic rib eye and Asian-style chicken tower.
• The Roosevelt Square Shopping Center Publix will hold an Easter Egg Hunt Saturday inside the store starting at 7 a.m.
• The Riverside Arts Market, featuring 150 different vendors under the canopy of the Fuller Warren Bridge on the Northbank Riverwalk, begins Saturday.
