Every brick of its construction and every crack in the facade could tell a story of Fire Station No. 2’s history. So could the faces of Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department personnel who attended the celebration of the station’s 100th year of service Thursday. “The Deuce” as it’s known, was built in 1909 after the original Fire Station No. 2 on Main Street between Ashley and Beaver streets was one of the many buildings that was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1901.

“It’s been my home really for half my life,” said Station Capt. Bill Langley. “It’s great to see everyone out here celebrating it.”
