Justin Griner (above) is one of nine artists whose new work loft and gallery, “229 North Hogan,” opened its doors to the public for the first time at Wednesday’s Art walk. The 6,200 square-foot space is above Hemming Plaza Jewelers at the corner of Hogan and Monroe streets.
The first show had 19 artists exhibiting their work in a wide range of styles. Griner said the group plans to be open every Art Walk and they are also planning to have another show each month, possibly the third Wednesday of each month. He also said bands, theatre troupes and spoken word artists would be welcome to perform at the shows.
Artists interested in sharing the studio space or exhibiting their work at 229 North Hogan can call Matt Abercrombie at 393-8939.
The new gallery is part of Downtown Vision, Inc.’s “Creative Community” initiative that matches artists with Downtown property owners who’d like to make use of unoccupied spaces. DVI Director of Marketing Pamela Elms said the response so far has been very positive from both groups and added, “We expect to open another Creative Community gallery at the December Art Walk.”
