Public Defender Matt Shirk has filled a vacancy in the Nassau County Public Defender’s Office with Doug Clifton. Effective yesterday, Clifton is an assistant public defender in the county.

“Doug is an aggressive, experienced defense attorney and will be a welcome addition to our Nassau County office,” said Shirk.  “Director Brian Morrissey and I are thrilled to catch such a talent.  We have been short one attorney in Yulee for a couple months now and Doug will provide the office some needed and very capable relief.”

Clifton is from South Central Pennsylvania and received his Bachelor’s degree in 2002 from John Carroll University in Cleveland. After taking a year off from school and spending time working in a maritime position in the Atlantic Ocean, he attended Florida Coastal School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctorate in 2007. For the last year-and-a-half, Clifton has been practicing law with a private Jacksonville firm handling primarily defense work.
