• The Jacksonville Urban League will host Ephren Taylor II Oct. 28 at noon at the Hyatt. Taylor is the CEO of City Capital Corporation and at 26 years old is one of the youngest African American CEO’s of any publicly traded company in the U.S. He has authored the book “Creating Success from the Inside Out” and speaks to groups across the country. • David Lamm and Joe Cowart are back on the radio talking sports during the lunchtime hours on AM-1010. The duo was together for years on AM-930 in the morning before the station made wholesale changes to its programming.

• The monthly SHADCO (Sheriff’s Advisory Council) meeting for Riverside/Avondale/Ortega/Murray Hill will be Thursday at 7 p.m., at the Ortega United Methodist Church on Roosevelt at the corner of Roosevelt Boulevard and Longfellow Road. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office representatives will be on hand to talk with citizens.

• With the Major League Baseball playoffs well underway, an exhibit in the Main Library is dedicated to America’s pastime.

• Saving more than just money: More than 300 local businesses have partnered up with local nonprofit Dreams Come True for the sixth annual “Partners for Dreams” to benefit both shoppers and local children with life-threatening illnesses. Shoppers who purchase special cards for $50 will receive a 20 percent discount to the participating stores from Nov. 6-15. For more information on the event, go to www.dreamscometrue.org.
