The Jacksonville Bankruptcy Bar Association (JBBA) hosted “Bankruptcy Boot Camp” at the Bryan J. Simpson Federal Courthouse recently.

The purpose of the event was to discuss practical and ethical considerations when consulting with a client in regards to Bankruptcy Court. JBBA President Jerrett McConnell and Chapter 13 Trustee Douglas Neway were speakers and discussed some dos and don’ts for Bankruptcy Court.

“More lawyers are practicing in Bankruptcy Court because that is where a lot of the work is,” said McConnell. “And the Bankruptcy Boot Camps are meant to foster professionalism and civility in the court.”

McConnell’s statement about the amount of work in bankruptcy court these days is not without merit. The Jacksonville Division of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Middle District of Florida is averaging about 940 new filings a month and it currently has over 10,500 cases pending.
