• Asa Philip Randolph (1889-1979) was a champion of the civil rights movement and is credited with organizing the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, one of the first labor unions to represent the African-American working class. The former Florida Avenue in the Sports Complex between the Baseball Grounds and the Arena was named after him in honor of his accomplishment.
