Sheriff John Rutherford (left) and many other members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office turned out in full force Thursday morning to celebrate their own, as well as community members, during JSO’s monthly awards and recognition ceremony at the Police Memorial Building. The final honors of the affair went to Officers Frederick Fillingham (second from left), Wayne Dyer (second from right) and Braden Pursell (right), who each received a Purple Heart for their duty and injuries they received during a police involved shooting incident last July involving a knife-weilding murder suspect in Northwest Jacksonville. “Our officers face these situations every day,” said Rutherford, during his congratulatory remarks.
