Paying respects

Former mayors, civic leaders, friends and family paid their respects Wednesday afternoon to former Mayor Lou Ritter, who died Friday. Several hundred people attended the service at First Presbyterian of Jacksonville in Downtown before proceeding to Evergreen Cemetery for his burial. Many people spoke of their memories and his legacy in Jacksonville, including friend William Birchfield. “When Lou talked, people listened,” said Birchfield. “And Lou usually had something to say.”
