Society is bombarded by advertising through a variety of media on a daily basis, but is it art?
That was the question people contemplated as they attended the latest Up & Cummers “What is Art?” program at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens in Riverside Aug. 17. The gallery featured 10 artists who work in graphic design and motion graphics.
“The program continues to grow and has been well received,” said Samantha Hyde, an Up & Cummers board member. “We are glad to provide an event for young professionals to mingle and give artists a chance to display their work.”
The purpose of the Up & Cummers is to “engage and inspire young professionals between 23-40 years of age through the arts, gardens and education.”
Membership in the group provides an opportunity to network outside of the daily business circles, as well as expand cultural awareness and stewardship through social and educational events.
Those showing at the gallery included AACE Impact Graphics, Amber Aultman of Copal Design, Jason Farmand of Root Design, Karen Kurycki of BroadBased Communications, Logan Raspa of Merecido Enterprises, Varick Rosete of AIGA Jacksonville, Emily Rawitsch of Studio Orange Design, Paul Rand of Wingard Creative, Felicia Wright of Mygani Design Studio and Alex Willis of Greaterworx Animation.
The next “What is Art?” event is 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens
