The Main Library is hosting “Deadly Medicine: Creating the Master Race,” a historical exhibit that examines how the Nazis and German doctors, scientists and public health officials developed a racist ideology to legitimize persecution, murder and genocide during World War II.

The exhibit is based on the presentation of the same name that debuted in 2004 at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.

“While the exhibition focuses on a horrific chapter in our world history, the difficult moral, social and ethical issues it raises are still valid today,” said Jacksonville Public Library Director Barbara Gubbin.

JPL is sponsoring a series of lectures to examine contemporary societal issues such as bullying, discrimination and medical ethics that will be presented at the University of North Florida, Jacksonville University, Florida Coastal School of Law and The Schultz Center for Teaching and Leadership.

For the complete schedule and locations, visit www.jpl.coj.net.

Free, docent-guided tours of the exhibition can be arranged for adult groups and students in grades 9 and above by contacting the Friends of the Jacksonville Public Library at 630-2304.

The exhibition is sponsored nationally by the Lerner Foundation and Eric F. and Lore Ross. Local sponsors are Jay Stein/Stein Mart Inc., the Fanny Landwirth Foundation, Jim and Pam Ervanian, Robert and Anne Lufrano and the Friends of the Jacksonville Public Library.

“Deadly Medicine” is on the 4th floor of the Main Library through March 13.
