Oltjon Hajdini, a pastry chef at the Hyatt, and Director of VIP Services Francesca Romero took a minute to enjoy one of Downtown’s holiday traditions, a gingerbread display in the lobby at the hotel.
This year, Hajdini and pastry chef Carlos Feldman decided one house wasn’t enough, so they created an entire village complete with a working fountain.
Hajdini said it took two weeks to construct the church, grocery store (it’s a Piggly Wiggly), bank, movie theater, three houses and, naturally, a bakery.
The village will be on exhibit until the day after Christmas, said Executive Assistant Manager for Food & Beverage Connie Paulikas.
Hajdini said plans are already in the works for the 2011 display. “We have to make it bigger and better every time. We’re thinking about maybe a train or mountains next year,” he said.
