Friends raise $120,000 for PAL

More than 400 people attended the 2nd Annual Sheriff’s Roast on Nov. 18 at the Omni Downtown to benefit the Police Athletic League.

The event raised a net $120,000, exceeding its goal by 20 percent.

The event featured a roast of Ron Autrey, president of Miller Electric Co. Sheriff John Rutherford was the honorary chair and Cole Pepper was the master of ceremonies.

Roasters included Paul Tyler, Wally Lee, Bruce Barcelo and Vaughn Beasley.

The host committee consisted of Beasley; Tyler; Ed Burr; Mike Hightower; Wally Lee; Kelly Madden; Wayne Weaver; Ed Witt Sr.; David Stein; Fitzhugh Powell and Mac McGehee.

Kimberly Waterhouse, second vice president of the Police Athletic League board of directors, was the 2010 chair of the roast.

Net proceeds will benefit the educational, mentoring and athletic programs that the league

provides to more than 2,800 children in Jacksonville.
