• Do you know students looking for fun and service hours? High school and college students are invited to volunteer Dec. 27-30 at Dignity U Wear along with players from the Jacksonville Giants. There will be both a morning and afternoon shift and a lunch break that will give students from different schools an opportunity to socialize. Dignity U Wear plans food, music, prizes and fun. Students will be working in the Dignity U Wear warehouse, sorting and processing new clothes for distribution to people in need all over the United States. To volunteer, call 636-9455.
• Catholic Charities plans “The Black and White Ball” March 26. “Black & White Night - Gala of Giving” is scheduled at the Hyatt Downtown, starting with a reception at 6:30 p.m. and dinner and dancing 8-11 p.m. There’s also a silent auction. It will be Catholic Charities’ 18th annual spring fundraiser, with “a sporty new twist this year.” It is “tossing aside the bow ties and traditional ball flourishes for a fast-breaking event” with “games on the big screen, bracketology, free throws, food stations and the music of Freudian Slip.” Tickets are $150, and $100 for patrons age 35 and under.
