• There will be plenty of Super Bowl festivities in South Florida this week with the big game Sunday, but one of the biggest will feature one local chef. The 19th annual “Taste of the NFL” to fight hunger brings 32 chefs from each of the NFL’s 32 cities to prepare dishes for a strolling food and wine event, with David Seavey of North Beach Bistro representing Jacksonville. Seavey’s been a local chef for close to 20 years, with a recent six-year position as executive chef of The Cabana Club, a private membership club affiliated with Sawgrass Marriott. Single tickets for the event went for $500 (sold out) and $600, with corporate tables fetching $6,000. In addition to a chef, a team representative will be on hand, with Jaguars player Sean Considine filling the role.

• The Sulzbacher Center Dental Clinic will host the American Dental Association’s annual “Give Kids a Smile” day Friday, when volunteer dentists will provide free dental care to homeless and needy children. Screenings, x-rays, cleanings, fluoride treatment and oral hygiene instruction will all be available for the children during the event, which runs from 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

• Tomorrow night’s Art Walk could have a more female feel to it. The Downtown cultural staple, hosted the first Wednesday of every month, has a “ladies night” theme this month, with advertised highlights including the Adrian Pickett Gallery at the Jacksonville Landing (with ladies receiving a special treat), the “Life as a Legend: Marilyn Monroe” exhibit at MOCA and a Haiku Birdie display and Valentine’s theme prizes at The Sinclair.

• TTX Company has notified the City that it laid off 51 employees as of Jan. 31. According to General Manger Charles Taylor, the West Church Street company expected to get federal funding that didn’t come through.

• Jacksonville Aviation Authority Executive Director Steve Grossman has asked Mayor John Peyton and several federal, state and local officials to join him Feb. 26 to begin developing a strategic plan for Cecil Commerce Center and Cecil Field.
