Punxsutawney Phil may have dampened some spirits with his call for six more weeks of winter Feb. 2, but that didn’t stop the February tradition that is the Tritt/Henderson Groundhog Day Extravaganza.

For the first time in its, approximately, five-year history the party moved completely indoors and was held at the 5 Points Theater in Riverside. Historically, the party could be identified by the glowing propane heaters lined up behind the law office of Tritt/Henderson on Peninsular Place. It wasn’t hard to find this year’s party as the name was on the marquee at the theater and the music of the party band “Boogie Freaks” echoed throughout the theater.

“It’s nice to see the name up in lights,” said Arnold Tritt Jr.

The required extravaganza elements were present: Groundhog Day movie playing on the big screen, check, mardi gras beads with Punxsutawney Phil emblem on them, check and Groundhog Day hats, masks and beer koozies, check.

The party is known not only for its celebration of the four-legged Pennsylvania weather forecaster, but also as one of the bigger networking events of the year in the legal community.

“It’s always fun to visit with friends who stop by,” said Arnold Tritt Sr., after talking with friend Charlie Towers.
