• City Council member Bill Bishop asked to be excused from Monday’s Courthouse Oversight Committee meeting. Seems he was in Washington, D.C. when the snow storm hit and he couldn’t get a flight back to Jacksonville.
• The Community Foundation of Jacksonville is hosting an open house to show off their new Riverside Avenue office. It’s Feb. 23 and by invitation.
• JEA was recently recognized by the National Association of Clear Water Agency with a 2009 Excellence in Management Award, which recognizes “public clean water utilities that implement progressive management initiatives thereby advance the goals of the Clean Water Act.” The award was presented during the NACWA’s 2010 Winter Conference in Austin, Texas.
• Wachovia has upped the ante in its support of the rebuilding effort in Haiti. After donating an initial $100,000 to the American Red Cross, Wachovia’s North Florida Regional President Scott Coble has indicated the bank will pledge another $250,000.
• Through the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, Kmart has notified the City it intends to close its Lem Turner Road store permanently May 31 and lay off 55 employees.
• The First Coast chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals announced their officers for the upcoming year. They are Heather Corey, president; Josh Zmroczek, Girl Scouts, president-elect; Bruce Ganger, ISF Group, vice president of education; Jami Bueker, Hubbard House, vice president of membership; Jimmy Kelly, daniel, vice president of communication; Karen Smith, Edward Waters College, vice president of diversity, Samantha Minton, Habitat for Humanity, secretary, Lisa Maldonado, St. Vincent’s HealthCare, Treasurer; and Tourea Robinson, immediate past president.
