• One of the Food Network’s most popular shows is coming to town. The crew from “Diners, drive-ins and dives” will be at Sun Dog Diner in Neptune Beach and Metro Diner on San Jose Boulevard Saturday. The show’s host, Guy Fieri, will be in town a few days later to film his segments.
• Speaking of the Beach, Rita’s Italian Ice in Jacksonville Beach has reopened after being closed for a couple of months and a sign on the door says to watch for a “new Ichiban” soon. The Japanese sushi and steakhouse closed a few months ago.
• The Museum of Science & History will hold its annual Black History Celebration Feb. 27 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. In partnership with Fidelity, MOSH will present Rodney Hurst, award-winning author of “It was never about a hot dog and a Coke,” his firsthand account of the 1960 civil rights demonstration known as Ax Handle Saturday. MOSH will also unveil a new Civil Rights section of its history exhibit, Currents of Time, that will feature a “white” lunch counter that replicates that of the Downtown Woolworth store where African-American youths held numerous sit-ins. • Stellar has promoted Mark Sherwood to director of business development. He will market Stellar’s services, including business planning, architecture, engineering, construction and specialty contracting. Sherwood has been with Stellar for 12 years, most recently serving as director of marketing.
• Friday morning Visit Jacksonville was spotlighted on Lifetime Channel’s “The Balancing Act,” a women’s lifestyle program. Research shows that women are the main decision maker when planning vacations and more than 8 million people saw the episode. The program will also air Tuesday and March 19. March 28, Versus Network’s program “City Limits Fishing with Mike Iaconnelli” will highlight Jacksonville’s many fishing spots and also include a segment featuring Juliette’s Bistro at the Omni.
• The Winter Olympics may not be the most widely viewed sporting event in the Southern U.S., but fans of the University of Florida can cheer for one of their own. Former Gator scholarship track and field athlete Steve Mesler is participating in his third Winter Games as a member of the USA-1 four-man bobsleigh team, also known as bobsled. The event begins Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. and continues Feb. 27. The team earned America’s first first place finish in the event on the World Cup Circuit in 45 years at Lake Placid, N.Y., prior to the games and is considered to be a gold-medal contender.
• Those who keep up with water issues and the St. Johns River Water Management District should have an easier time now. The agency recently launched a Web site redeisgn complete with a new name, www.floridaswater.com, features and navigation. The District’s old Web site, www.sjrwmd, will continue to function, but officials believe the new one will help people better remember the site.
• Update from Thursday’s story about the Kansas City Leadership Trip: Participants are taking the next two weeks to provide additional comments on the trip and themes laid out Tuesday and have until Feb. 23 to respond. Following the collection of new comments into the white paper, a follow up discussion is still planned for March 10 at the Chamber of Commerce.
• Today is a celebration of two kinds for a couple Beaches facilities. The Beaches Community Healthcare, a Sulzbacher Center clinic, will host an open house for its one-year anniversary. In addition, the day marks the grand opening of the facility’s new dental clinic to serve uninsured patients with incomes at or below 200 percent of the poverty level.
