With the Blues Brothers introducing the winners, and Ethel Merman singing about real estate, the first batch of Laurel Awards were presented earlier this month at UNF’s University Center.
The Laurels are the major awards given by the Sales and Marketing Council and this year have been divided into two parts because of the number of awards. The first group was for production with site agents and mortgage company representatives getting most of the attention, and the second (and largest) group will be handed out this summer.
Shawn McKee of Richmond American Homes won for the top producer for a builder/lender, Diana Dilallo of Wells Fargo won for an outside lender and Kim Coughlin of East-West Realty took a major broker award.
The top partnership team was Jason Crenshaw and Susan Paul of Mattamy Homes.
The winners were announced by Laurels chair Amber Williams of Ryland Homes and escorted to the podium by a pair of Blue Brothers impersonators. The winners then were presented plaques by the morning’s speaker, Jim Bailey of Bailey Publishing and Communications Inc.
The entertainment came from Watson Realty’s Gwen Templeton, who dressed as the late Broadway star Ethel Merman and belted out a song in Mermanesque fashion about selling homes.
In additon to the specific production categories, numerous agents were recognized for “Miller Dollar Circle” awards, which long ago left a million dollars behind and now are given for a minimum of $5 million in sales.
The next SMC meeting will be Feb. 12. The speaker will be Jerry Mallot, the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce executive who heads the area’s initiative to attract businesses to Northeast Florida.
