• The Museum of Science & History says its planetarium upgrade will cost a projected $820,000 and is more than halfway there. MOSH received a lead gift of $465,000 from The Bryan Family Trustees of The Henry & Lucy Gooding Endowment. Additional donors will be announced July 8.
• Mayport Middle School was awarded a $242,000 grant through the Department of Defense Education Activity Educational Partnership. It will go toward funding “Mayport Partnership: Developing Lifelong Stewards of the Environment,” with a focus on coastal sciences.
• The Insurance Women of Jacksonville named Marguerite Mumford its 2010 “Executive of the Year.” Mumford owns two Paul Davis Restoration offices in Jacksonville and Gainesville.
• The next Jacksonville Asian American Bar Association meeting has been tentatively rescheduled from tomorrow to July 8 at noon at Basil Thai Restaurant in San Marco. New officers will be elected at the meeting.
• Downtown Vision’s “Great Pirate Party” starts at 9 p.m. July 9 when pirates and pirate fans invade the bars and clubs Downtown to benefit the St. Johns Riverkeeper. Money raised throughout the evening will help fight the algae bloom and fish kill.

• The relevance of art and culture in Jacksonville will be the topic when The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens hosts an arts roundtable July 13. Curator Holly Keris will moderate a discussion among collectors David Vickers, Preston Haskell, Cultural Council of Jacksonville Inc. representatives, University of North Florida professor Debra Murphy and Martha Barrett.
