Michael Boylan, President and CEO, WJCT Public Broadcasting

Mission

To provide programs and services that celebrate human diversity, encourage joyful learning and promote civic participation, all to empower citizens to improve the quality of their lives.

Serving Jacksonville

For 51 years.

Those served

Principally the five-county area of Duval, Clay, St. Johns, Baker and Nassau

Biggest challenge

Not only for me but other nonprofit CEOs is the fact that we are not appreciated as sophisticated business operators who successfully balance meeting the day-to-day financial needs of our operations without compromising our organization’s mission and programs.

Biggest satisfaction

The interaction I have not only with board members, volunteers, viewers and listeners, but with the many organizations with whom we partner to advance what they do in service to this community.

Your hometown

Canton, Ohio.

First experience with

community service

Perhaps during my time as a Boy Scout (way back when). I can’t recall the specifics, but community service has always been a part of my life, never more so than here in the First Coast.

Your job before WJCT Public Broadcasting

VP of Production and Facilities Services, WPBT Television, Miami.

Upcoming events

We typically do not host fundraising events, relying largely on on-air fundraising drives and direct mail. We also are currently in a capital campaign to raise $800,000, which is needed to keep us current with digital broadcast technology.
