Nicolas van der Does learned the art of glassblowing at Jacksonville University and is exhibiting some of his work at The Next Gallery.

Gallery owner and artist Sharla Valeski said she met van der Does and saw his work at Art After Dark at the Florida Theatre and at JU’s Senior Art Exhibition, “And I just fell in love with his work. Nicolas is very conceptual and explores new ideas like his pill bottle and his drums and his glass bonsai trees while most glass artists create functional pieces like vases. That’s what attracted me to his work.”

The Next Gallery is on Laura Street between Adams and Monroe streets in the Elks Building. It’s open 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday and by appointment .
