Community leaders, supporters and students gathered for the ribbon-cutting of the Reed Educational Campus Garden expansion and the Fit For Life Health Initiative Thursday.
A U.S. Surgeon General’s report states that more than 20 percent of all people in the United States are overweight and do not exercise as recommended.
The Fit For Life Health Initiative for tween girls living in poverty-stricken areas of Northwest Jacksonville provides a special health area with access to pediatrics, a registered dietitian/certified holistic counselor, licensed mental health counselor, physical fitness instructor and master gardeners.
The services are connected to Reed Educational Campus, a center for tween girls that includes certified experienced early literacy educators offering study courses such as reading, arts, math, language arts and science. The center is at 1934 Lentie Road.
The Fit For Life Health Initiative designed for the Reed Educational Campus tween girls is under the auspices of The National Council of Negro Women’s Child Watch Partnership of Jacksonville.
