Design contract approval for the first phase of the Bus Rapid Transit system and approval for the further addition of closed circuit television systems aboard fixed-route vehicles are among the agenda action items at today’s Jacksonville Transportation Authority board meeting.
Upon approval by the board and then by the Federal Transit Administration, plans will proceed on the initial Downtown phase of the JTA program to add dedicated transit lanes, intersection improvements and signal prioritization, among other enhancements.
Among the four project finalists, HDR Engineering Inc. was the highest rated, said Mike Miller, JTA external affairs director.
The board will also vote on the approval of closed circuit television systems for fixed-route and Connexion vehicles, the second phase of the project.
Miller said systems were installed in 50 of JTA’s fleet vehicles under the first phase and have been beneficial in surveillance and security for the Authority’s workers, passengers and community as a whole.
If the board approves the measure, the Authority would install systems in the remainder of its fleet using $726,000 from a federal capital grant.
The board meeting is scheduled 2-4 p.m. today at JTA headquarters, 100 N. Myrtle Ave. For more information, go to www.jtafla.com.
