The Young Lawyers Section (YLS) of the Jacksonville Bar Association continued its efforts to promote professionalism in the legal community by hosting members of the local judiciary for breakfast Wednesday.
The program provides a social setting for young lawyers to interact with judges so they can ask questions on courtroom policy or get to know the judges. Some conversations included discussion of the differences between law school and the practice of law, while others talked about friends and family.
“It was a great turnout and we appreciate the judges’ support of the program,” said Elizabeth Howard, organizer of the event and a attorney with Rogers Towers. “It’s a unique opportunity for young lawyers to spend some one-on-one time with judges.”
About 30 people attended the event, which moved from its normal setting of Chief Judge Donald Moran’s chambers. A conference room on the fifth floor of the County Courthouse provided more room for guests to mingle.
“Part of the mission of the Young Lawyers Section is to create networking opportunities for our members,” said Howard, who is also secretary of the YLS Board of Governors. “And this is a great opportunity along those lines.”
