Law students can relate to living stressful lives, but few situations are as stressful as battling breast cancer. That’s why a local group of law students decided to support an organization that endeavors to reduce the stress in these women’s lives.
Representatives from the Florida Coastal School of Law Student Bar Association presented The Donna Foundation, Donna Deegan’s philanthropic organization that raises money for Jacksonville women living with breast cancer, with a check for $10,000 April 29. The association raised the money through ticket sales from its Charity Ball in March. Deegan and foundation director Julie Terrazzano accepted the check during a presentation at the school.
“From the bottom of my heart, I thank you,” Deegan said. “You are saving lives.”
The Foundation raises money to be used exclusively for First Coast women living with breast cancer who, for whatever reason, experience financial hardship while undergoing treatment. It has partnered with Catholic Charities, one of the largest social service agencies in the area, to screen each recipient to ensure that the Foundation is a good steward of the money donated to it.
Once applicants are screened, The Donna Foundation makes the checks payable to their mortgage company, utilities carrier, doctors office and similar sources to which payment is due.
