Retired U.S. Navy Adm. Robert Natter summed up the world’s military challenges Monday to about 60 members of the Meninak Club of Jacksonville, outlining issues in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Russia, Korea and China. Natter retired from the U.S. Navy in December 2003 after serving as Commander in Chief of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet and created R.J. Natter & Associates, a nationwide consulting and advocacy firm that specializes in corporate and defense strategy based in Ponte Vedra and Washington, D.C. Natter also said that the U.S. had close to 1.5 million military troops in uniform, or “one-third of 1 percent “ of the nation’s population. Natter is working with the city to bring a nuclear carrier to Mayport. He said the U.S. West Coast fleet consisted of five carriers among four ports, while the Atlantic Fleet has five carriers in one port, Norfolk, Va.
“Apparently our friends up north haven’t heard of Pearl Harbor ... or 9/11,” he said.
