The late State Sen. James “Jim” King Jr., the late State Rep. Don Davis and former Mayor Hans Tanzler all spent careers in government service. To recognize their work, the Legislature approved bills to rename portions of Northeast Florida roadways in their honor.

Local legislators, City officials, friends and family gathered Monday at City Hall to unveil the signs. “Today we recognize three giants of Jacksonville ... three giants of Florida,” said State Rep. Charles McBurney.

The families of King and Davis attended the official sign unveilings, while Tanzler was accompanied by family.

The James E. “Jim” King Jr. Parkway is a portion of Merrill Road through the Wonderwood Connector, between Florida 9A east to Mayport Road.

The Don Davis Memorial Interchange is the intersection of Florida 9A and J. Turner Butler Boulevard.

The Hans G. Tanzler Interstate is a portion of Interstate 295, from I-10 to I-95. Signs for all three should be up in July, officials said.
