• U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke will be at Jacksonville University Friday for a question-and-answer session with a number of economics and business students from several Florida schools. The event, which is closed to the public, will include students from JU, the University of North Florida, Rollins College, Stetson University and the University of Florida. It begins at 2 p.m. and will conclude just before 3 p.m.

• Jacksonville Sheriff’s Officer Ken Jefferson told Daily Record news partner Channel 4 he will run for sheriff next year. Jefferson, a 24-year veteran of the force, said he will file papers with the Supervisor of Elections Office today and will hold a news conference later this week to make his announcement official.

• JTA is extending the service hours of the Riverside Trolley this Wednesday. To accommodate people who live or work in Riverside and Avondale and would like a ride to Art Walk and Downtown’s restaurants and clubs and back, the trolley will run its route until 12:30 a.m. For details, call 630-3100.

• Jacksonville Area Legal Aid recently received a mini-grant that will go toward hosting seminars to educate seniors living on their own about issues dealing with JEA. Presentations will take place throughout November beginning Wednesday at the Lane Wiley Center (6170 Wiley Road), Nov. 9 at the Clanzel Brown Center (4574 Moncrief Road), Nov. 15 at the Charlie Joseph Center (6943 Buffalo Ave.) and Nov. 16 at the Mary Singleton Center (150 E. First St.). All presentations are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. For more information, call JALA at 356-8371.
