The Laura Street improvement project has moved a block north to Forsyth Street. Northbound and southbound traffic is being detoured and only one lane of Forsyth is open for vehicles.

Workers are preparing the intersection for the installation of the signature traffic-calming Belgian blocks, 50-pound chunks of granite also called “cobblestones.”

South of the intersection, sidewalk improvements are being completed, including the water and electric lines that will be concealed in trash receptacles. The underground utilities will make power and water available to street vendors during festivals and other events along the street.

The next step will be planting palm trees and placing street markers similar to those already at the intersection of Laura and Bay streets.
