• Lewis, Longman & Walker attorney F. Joseph Ullo Jr. was elected president of the Florida Brownfields Association.
Ullo represents private clients, local governments and special districts in the areas of environmental, land use, and intellectual property law. The Florida Brownfields Association is a nonprofit organization focused on advancing the cleanup and redevelopment of brownfields in Florida. Brownfields are sites for which their expansion, redevelopment or reuse may be complicated by actual or perceived contamination.
• Duval County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 11.38 percent in October from 12.4 percent in September and from 11.68 percent in October 2009, according to state numbers adjusted for seasonality by the University of North Florida Local Economic Indicators Project.
• Between September and October, the Duval County labor force dropped by 3,774 people. The number of employed people fell by 373, while the number of unemployed people declined by 3,401. UNF economics professor Paul Mason, director of the local economic indicators project, said a large number of workers left the labor force in October and most were unemployed. He said it’s not clear whether they left Jacksonville or just stopped looking for work.
• Baptist Health announced that Ava Parker was named to the Baptist Medical Center board of directors. Parker is the president of Linking Solutions Inc. and a partner in the law firm of Lawrence & Parker. Linking Solutions is a management consulting, administrative support and community outreach and education firm. Parker also chairs the State University System Board of Governors and the Jacksonville Transportation Authority.
• Delta Airlines will begin daily nonstop service between Jacksonville and Miami starting in March. The airline plans to operate four departures and arrivals each day between Jacksonville International Airport and Miami International Airport.
