Downtown Vision’s First Wednesday Art Walk was a celebration of Hispanic heritage for the October edition Wednesday. The Latin community gathered for music, dancing, food and art during the monthly tour of Downtown art galleries and shops.
Thousands of people started and ended their evening stroll at Hemming Plaza, where in addition to the usual artists’ tents, a variety of Latin foods was also available. Many people danced in front of the stage on Laura Street, which was closed in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Main Library for the festivities.
It was the third consecutive year the Hispanic community partnered with Art Walk for the heritage celebration. DVI Marketing Director Pamela Elms said the organizers have used the opportunity to grow the event with the intention of evolving it into an annual event on its own.
“We’re very excited that the heritage celebration has continued to grow and that the Hispanic community can use Art Walk as a platform. We take care of all the permits and insurance, so it’s easier for groups to start events like this,” said Elms.
The next First Wednesday Art Walk will be from 5-9 p.m. Nov. 3, rain or shine. Visit www.downtownjacksonville.com.
