With 20 days before the Nov. 2 general election, State Rep. and Republican Majority Leader Adam Hasner (at podium) was joined by State Rep. and Assistant State Attorney Mike Weinstein, State Attorney Angela Corey and former City Council President Richard Clark for a rally at Hemming Plaza Thursday morning. They were there to support Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott and “implore (Democratic gubernatorial candidate and Florida CFO) Alex Sink to release the records” concerning her decision to allow convicted felons to obtain state insurance licenses, said Corey. Under Florida law, licenses may be issued to convicted felons at the discretion of the Insurance Commissioner, which is part of the CFO’s responsibility. Scott questioned Sink about allowing the licenses to be issued during a debate last week. Sink’s camp response to the press conference: “The fact is that Florida has some of the toughest standards in the country for licensing insurance agents, and Alex Sink has fought industry efforts to weaken these standards,” said Kyra Jennings, Sink’s press secretary. “The law that governs this process has been on the books for 40 years, and the CFO’s office has followed these rules the same way Sink’s Republican predecessor did.”
