Metropolitan Jacksonville saw a growing number and larger share of households with people 65 and older the past two years.

Family households remain the largest share of all households in the five-county area, at about two-thirds of households.

Nonfamily households, consisting of unrelated people who live in the same housing unit, also remained stable at about a third of all households.

Meanwhile, the percentage of households with teenagers and children younger than 18 also remains stable at about a third of all households.

Meanwhile, the average family size has increased since 2007 to 3.15 people, while the average household size remained stable at nearly 2.58 people.

The national recession began in December 2007 and was declared over as of of June 2009.

The Daily Record is presenting a series of Jacksonville facts from the U.S. Census Bureau for 2007, 2008 and 2009 for Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties.
