Downtown’s preparations for the Georgia-Florida football game weekend festivities rev into high gear in the next few days. Streets in front of the Landing are scheduled to be closed to vehicular traffic beginning Wednesday and will remain so until Sunday morning.

Another job that’s already complete is the installation of a thick layer of mulch in the Laura Street improvement project landscape beds near the Landing, including those around the statue of Andrew Jackson.

It’s another of the City’s public safety initiatives.

“The City realizes Georgia-Florida is a unique event,” said Paul Crawford, deputy executive director of the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission and the Laura Street project manager.

“Some of the spectators may need a soft place to land.”
